The best investment I made this year was getting a set of Master Dynamic MH 40 Headphones. Its like a night and day difference between these and your garden variety $50 headphones. I think its a very worthwhile investment for any serious music producer. You can hear all the subtleties that you may have missed before. 
Plus these things are built well. The earpads and the cable are removable so you can replace them if needed.
